Staff Appreciation Week 2017 was a huge success! The week kicked off on Monday, February 27 with the President’s Meritorious Service Awards (PMSA) ceremony and reception. SSC custodian Leona Bay was one of the 25 outstanding staff members recognized with this prestigious award. In this issue, we have dedicated a separate article to Leona entitled Custodian Leona Bay Receives PMSA.
President Young’s Backyard Picnic was held on Tuesday 2/28 and was very much a hit among staff! There was definitely a higher turnout than last year. This fun-filled laid back event included picnic fare catered by Chartwells, henna and temporary tattooing, inflatables, Knockerball and selfie station photo booths.
On Wednesday, motivational speaker David Goggins spoke to staff about overcoming obstacles and being your best self. Goggins is a retired Navy SEAL and graduate of the TEEX fire school here in Aggieland.
Thursday’s event was the Wellness Walk. Staff gathered at either the Jack K. Williams Building or Wehner Plaza; both groups met in Kyle Field Plaza for a rally featuring David Goggins and Dr. Patricia Sulak (author of Living WELL Aware at Texas A&M). Chartwells served boxed lunches for the walkers.
Friday marked department appreciation day. This day was set aside for individual units to host special appreciation events/activities within their respective offices. All kinds of events took place across campus from departments enjoying meals together to trying to work as a team to navigate an escape room! SSC served 2 donuts to each and every one of our associates. We ordered a total of 2200 Shipley donuts!
For those TAMU, SSC and Chartwells associates who were unable to attend the week’s events due to their shift schedules and nature of their positions, Sarah Boreen and Melissa Loyd of the Staff Appreciation Week committee coordinated for them to receive boxed lunches as a token of appreciation.
