On April 27th, Andrea Wienen celebrated her 25th “workiversay.” In 1992, Andrea began working for Texas A&M University’s Physical Plant.  She was hired as a student technician as part of a group assigned to conduct architectural barrier surveys on campus facilities for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.  After graduation, Andrea continued working for the Physical Plant as a Planner/Estimator (P/E).  She was promoted to P/E II and then Senior Administrative Coordinator in charge of the Deferred Maintenance and Fire/Life Safety Programming.  Andrea then received yet another promotion to Senior Program Manager to oversee the Deferred Maintenance Team of Project Managers and Architect. Andrea’s current role is Operations Manager for SSC’s Engineering, Design and Construction Services (EDCS) team.  In this position, she is responsible for program reporting, liaison to TAMU on Deferred Maintenance and Fire/Life Safety programs, drafting of policies and procedures, hiring and retention of employees, management of the internship program and monthly EDCS trainings.  Over the years, Andrea has truly honed her skills and is really good at what she does; she has a passion for her work.  This is evident by her being named a 2004 President’s Meritorious Service Award recipient.

Born in Dallas, Andrea then moved to Malakoff, Texas for her high school years and then to College Station to attend Texas A&M University.  She came here to attend college and never left! Andrea is a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ’93.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design from the College of Architecture.  Andrea is married to her husband of almost 24 years, Michael. They were actually high school sweethearts!

The couple has two children: Xander, 10 and Lexa, 8. Michael and Andrea are very involved in their kids’ activities.  As a couple, they volunteer their time by coaching both the kids’ soccer teams through Central Sports.  Additionally, they are leaders in the kids’ AWANA groups at Grace Bible Church.

Andrea even finds time to serve as facilities coordinator and graphics designer for Brazos Robotics, a youth program whose purpose is to inspire kids toward careers in engineering, science and technology.  Together, Andrea and Michael opened a business called Mentors & Makers in College Station, where makers and families learn and share skills in areas from woodworking to programming.  Andrea teaches classes in various handwork, leatherwork, jewelry making and crafting.  She is one of the craftiest and most creative woman around!

When Andrea finds some moments for herself, she enjoys exercising, reading, crafting, baking with the kids, dinner and shopping with friends.  “Love is a verb” is Andrea’s favorite quote.  The best advice Andrea has ever received is, “Don’t let anyone ever make you feel differently than you think.”  We couldn’t agree more.

SSC feels extremely grateful to have Andrea on our team! Not only is she excellent at the day to day tasks but goes above and beyond by planning fun events for her team that build comradery and boost morale. She says planning those events, along with the great people and problem solving as a team, are the favorite parts of her job.  Andrea, we look forward to having you on our team for a long time to come.

Here’s to 25 more years!
