After almost two years of planning, Grounds Management’s Jonathan Cavazos and his team finally installed the Butterfly Garden with student groups Aggieland Monarch Butterfly Project and CKI Monarch Watch. This beautiful garden is located along the north sidewalk between the ILSB building and the All Faiths Chapel. This project was a joint effort between Texas A&M University, SSC Grounds Management, the two student groups and the Aggie Green Fund. The two students who spearheaded this effort were Andrew Payne with Aggieland Monarch Butterfly Project and Katherine Deremo with CKI Monarch Watch. The design was done by Jonathan Cavazos with input from Mr. Payne and Ms. Deremo.
The project was installed by students from the two groups along with the SSC Grounds Landscape Construction Team consisting of Richard Andrade, Mark Feathers, Manuel Torres and Jimmy Donaldson. The work consisted of removing the exiting mulch from the bed areas, removing the drip irrigation hoses and checking for leaks, installing bed mix/compost and tilling into the existing soil, plant layout, plant installation, re-installation of the drip irrigation and testing/repair and last by not least, mulch installation.
SSC Grounds Management would like to thank everyone involved in the project. It was truly a team effort!
