CUSTODIAL TRAINING CREW GOING STRONG

 

In April 2016, Custodial Services implemented a training program.  Custodial Management handpicked the individuals (previously working in other crews) who would help spearhead the training program. The training crew is led by Supervisor, Lou Jacques, and the Team Lead is Chantel Stewart.  Team members are Nannie Curtis, Maria E. Martinez and Dee Roberts.  This small but mighty team is extremely hardworking and has outstanding customer service skills.  We are so proud of their willingness to be a part of something as great and rewarding as the training team.  This group has a combined total of 40 years of providing outstanding custodial work!

 

To date, the training crew has trained 285 newly hired Custodial associates, re-trained seasoned associates in their work areas, completed special projects and helped out in various Custodial crews when needed.

 

The training process itself consists of onboarding, done by Custodial Onboarding Specialist, Alice Casanova, orientation done by Lou Jacques and the training crew, safety training which includes department safety training, custodial safety training and chemical and equipment safety training.  Other classroom training consists of custodial cleaning procedures using PowerPoint presentations, a custodial training manual, Compass Group associate handbook and training quizzes and evaluations.

 

New Custodial associates receive 2-4 days of hands-on training in the field on general custodial tasks by the trainers. Each associate is evaluated and tested.  If the associate successfully completes the training program, he or she is awarded a certificate of completion.

 

Thinking ahead to next steps with this program, it would involve enhancing the training program by developing and implementing classroom and on-the-job training in carpet and hard floor care.  Additionally, this floor care training information would be added to the existing training manual.  Custodial Services will be developing and implementing a leadership program that will enhance and nurture the potential of associates who want to move up within SSC Custodial Services.  This will build an even stronger management team and develop associates who are willing to relocate within the company for greater opportunities.
