Please welcome Javier Santos, the newest member of our Engineering, Design and Construction Services (EDCS) team! Javier recently joined EDCS as Project Manager II. His last job was at Wood Group Mustang, where he was a Project Engineer working with various engineering disciplines to ensure design work was being done according to established schedules and major equipment was being purchased according to specified standards. The most significant job that Javier held before that was with the United States Navy, where he was a Facilities Project Manager. Javier served in the Navy as a Civil Engineer Corps officer for 7 years active and 3 years reserves.
Born in Puerto Rico, Javier and his family moved to the Northwest side of Houston when he was just 3 years old. Javier earned his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston and his Master’s in Construction and Engineering Management from Texas A&M University! Three years ago, Javier married Nohemy, who works for United Airlines at Bush Intercontinental Airport. The couple currently resides near Katy and likes staying active together, especially by doing 5 and 10K runs throughout the year. One of their favorite races is the Blue Bell run in Brenham. Javier and Nohemy also love traveling together, not just for pleasure but also to serve those in need.
As we’ve gotten to know Javier a little better, we learned that he’s been on 4 trips to El Salvador with Living Water International, a Christian non-profit that brings clean water access to impoverished communities throughout the world. We were so excited to learn this as SSC is currently working with Living Water on taking 6 students to El Salvador later this summer. This July, Javier will participate in yet another Living Water service trip to Honduras to build a water well for a community in need.
If he wants to take a trip for leisure, Javier’s favorite destination is Madrid, Spain. Houston’s ranks among Javier’s favorite restaurants, where he likes to order the Hawaiian rib eye steak. Javier’s favorite sports team is the Houston Astros.
We’re happy to have Javier on board and he’s glad to be an EDCS Project Manager. He says, “So far, it’s very similar to a job I had while in the Navy, which I enjoyed very much because it allowed me to be involved in various project where I was constantly learning new things and then getting a sense of accomplishment when the project gets completed.”
