EDCS PLAYS ROLE IN MSC STREET PLANNING
Dr. Mikael “Mike” Olsen, Structural/Civil Engineer in SSC’s Engineering, Design & Construction Services, is helping the university with street planning near the Memorial Student Center. In June, a streetscape plan was presented to A&M’s Transportation Services. Kimley-Horn and Associates is the architectural engineer (A/E) responsible for helping develop a workable renovation of the streets behind and adjacent to the MSC. This plan will make the streets even more pedestrian friendly as well as easier for vehicular traffic in the area. Kimley-Horn and Associates were the A/E responsible for the design of the Coke Street renovation in front and to the east of Rudder Tower and Theater Complex. The work will be sponsored by Transportation Services.
The role of EDCS is to provide the necessary project management for the current A/E design development phase and the construction. Among the many challenges of this project is the coordination and phasing of the project with the construction of the new hotel and convention center across from Kyle Field. Some other challenges include the upgrade of the utility infrastructure currently under way by TAMU Utilities & Energy Services as well as the upcoming demolition and reconstruction of Bizzell Hall. EDCS is managing the demolition of Bizzell Hall.
