Custodial Services Administrative Assistant Alicia Rodriguez has decided to retire after 29 years of dedicated work (24 with A&M and 5 with SSC). On May 15, 1987, Alicia began her career as a receptionist for the Custodial Department at the Texas A&M University Physical Plant. Alicia received multiple promotions throughout the course of her career; she was promoted to Secretary, Clerk III, Lead Office Assistant and then Administrative Assistant when SSC acquired the Physical Plant in 2012. It is quite impressive that Alicia has stayed in one department since she was hired! She has seen a lot of changes over the years, especially regarding technology. Alicia recalls, "When I started working in the Physical Plant, they had recently moved over to this building. We didn’t have our own copier and had share one in the hallway with all of the other departments in the Physical Plant. I used to enter employees' time because the supervisors did not have computers, but then they got computers and I taught them how to enter time.” During her time working for TAMU, Alicia received the A + Award and was named a GEM award recipient by SSC.
Alicia was born in Mercedes, Texas and was raised in La Feria, Texas. She went to a technical institute in Harlingen, Texas, and earned two certificates - one as a Nursing Assistant and the other as General Office Clerk. Alicia worked a year and a half at the Harlingen social security office before moving to the Bryan/College Station area in 1981.
Alicia is married to Luis Rodriguez Sr., who in fact, just retired earlier this year from A&M’s Environmental Health and Safety Department. The couple has a son, Luis Jr., and a daughter, Jessica. Luis Jr. attended Blinn College, receiving an associate degree in business administration and a certificate in real estate. Jessica currently attends Blinn. The family keeps busy with their many animals, including dog, Camilla, six rabbits, ten chickens and numerous cows and donkeys. In her spare time, Alicia enjoys cooking, going dancing, browsing garage sales and taking photos, as many of her co-workers know! She also has helped out with Fiestas Patrias that occurs every September in downtown Bryan.
"Do your best at your job and you can accomplish anything,” is Alicia’s advice for a successful career. She has proven this to be true in her own career. When asked what has kept her working at the same place for so long, Alicia proudly says, “I like the people I work with and what I do in my job.” Alicia would like to say thank you to SSC for giving her the opportunity to work for the company. She is going to miss all of her co-workers and everyone else she got to know over the years of working at the Texas A&M Physical Plant and SSC.
We would like to congratulate Alicia Rodriguez on her retirement and thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the Custodial Department. You’ll be missed, Alicia!
