CUSTODIAL PROVIDES EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING
Over the last few years, this world has been plagued with tragedy, unexpected and unexplained acts of violence at K-12 schools, universities, concerts, restaurants, shopping malls, etc. Too many of us are wandering around day after day possibly not fully grasping the dangers that we are in every minute each day. In Custodial Services, during our new training and orientation, we talk about being aware of our surroundings and how to act if something should occur in or outside of the workplace. What we realized was that we had a large group of 400 associates who had not received recent training on what to do if something happened on our campus. We decided to get our associates retrained and remind them of the importance to always be aware of our surroundings.
Custodial partnered with University Police Department and we have five scheduled Emergency Preparedness Training sessions throughout October and November. This is something that I am hoping we do on an annual basis.
UPD was eager to do the training for us and we are very pleased to be able to partner with them as we have in the past. What is most helpful are the training videos - Active Shooter, Shots Fired, and Concerning Behavior - and the sharing of information from the UPD officers who are presenting the training.
It is extremely important that we all be more aware of what is going on around us and not dismiss something or someone that seems out of place or strange. “If you see something, say something.”
