GROUNDS STUDENT WORKER PRESENTED WITH PGMS SCHOLARSHIP

Each year, the Texas Branch of the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) awards a scholarship up to $1,000 to a college student studying landscape, grounds management, turf management, irrigation technology, or a closely related field. Applicants must at least be in their first year of college, must be sponsored by a PGMS member and need to submit a cover letter, brief essay, resume, current transcript and two letters of reference.
The scholarship selection committee looks for an active student with solid grades and past or current employment in the green industry. They are also seeking a student with involvement in the industry with apprentice or professional organizations, such as FFA, 4H, state or county programs, as well as civic projects and outreach programs. The committee also looks for participation in personal development classes and involvement in sports or clubs.
SSC is proud to announce that the 2018 recipient is Randa Homann, a Texas A&M University junior pursuing a degree in horticulture with a minor in business. Randa’s future career goal is to become a landscape designer or manager. Last summer, Randa interned at SSC Grounds Management where she worked with the landscape construction team and was able to design and create a landscape on campus at the end of her internship. During the 2017 fall semester, Randa also worked as a student worker in the greenhouses. In 2016, Randa became a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and made the Dean’s List in 2017. She has an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.7.
Congrats, Randa! We are very proud of you on being chosen as the 2018 PGMS Texas Branch scholarship recipient.
