TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION GRANTS AWARDED
In August, SSC Maintenance was awarded two Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) grants. The first is a Skills Development Fund for $1,100,460 that will be managed by Blinn College to provide free training to SSC Maintenance associates and the American Fire Protection Group. The majority of the funding is for SSC training, which includes CPR/First Aid, factory air conditioning, Lutron Programmable Light, boiler, heat exchanger, value alignment, Texas trade continuous license, NFPA 70e, Microsoft Office and water tower servicing training. Over $72,000 was spent on procuring mock-ups and simulations to provide
hands- on training for trade topics.
SSC was awarded a second grant for apprentice training for $5,728 to buy computers, an overhead projector and installation support. The equipment will be located in the newly dedicated training room located in the Facilities Services building on campus.
These two grants allow SSC to really focus on training, which will help our associates move up within the company. We would like to extend a special thanks to our very own Director of Training, Roger Hermeling, for all of his hard work and dedication on these grants. Roger has worked behind the scenes for months ensuring that this idea became a reality. Thank you so much, Roger, for your commitment to our associates' training!
