FIRST PHASE OF MSC STREET RECONSTRUCTION COMPLETE
In the Spring of 2018, SSC began an extensive reconstruction project of Joe Routt and Gene Stallings Blvd. This project was on schedule to be construction complete by the end of August, prior to the beginning of the fall semester, opening of the new hotel & conference center and first Aggie home football game. The contractor Brazos Paving, Inc. successfully completed the entire project including the last portion of the sidewalk paving and intersection with West Lamar Street in the week before the opening of the new hotel & conference center on August 27 and the first home game on August 30. The project required coordination of existing vehicular traffic needs for continuous access to the hotel and MSC loading dock as well as the Cain Garage and pedestrian access to MSC. The project is managed by Mikael “Mike” Olsen, Ph.D., P.E. and constructed by Brazos Paving, Inc. The total project budget is $2.476M and the first phase of the reconstruction of the streets surrounding the MSC. It will be followed in 2019 by the reconstruction of West Lamar and Houston Street, which are currently in design status.
