Elizabeth Delgado becomes a U.S. Citizen

Custodian Elizabeth Delgado became a United States citizen in a naturalization ceremony held in Bryan on February 28th. In the ceremony, an impressive 90 individuals representing 31 countries from Algeria to Yemen, all became U.S. citizens. Elizabeth reflects, “We all come from different countries and we all have the same goal of becoming a U.S. citizen. We all speak different native languages, but what we now have in common is the English language with the U.S. being our new country of citizenship.”

The process of becoming a citizen is a lengthy one – it takes about 9 months and involves an extensive citizenship interview. Elizabeth, who has lived in the U.S. for 11 years, had much support during the preparation process. She says her son, daughter, and SSC Custodial Res Life Northeast co-workers helped her practice for the interview.

When asked what was most meaningful about the ceremony, Elizabeth excitedly says, “I’m happy that the judge was presiding over the naturalization ceremony and that my husband was proud of me.”

Elizabeth, SSC is proud of you too!

Congratulations on this major accomplishment of becoming a U.S. citizen!
