THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB FIELD TRIP

 

The Boys and Girls Club Brazos Valley website (www.bgcbv.org) states, “Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence [by]  teaching young people the skills they need to succeed in life.” This summer, the club is focusing on different career paths students can take post high school.  As a part of that, each student completed a career assessment.  They then visited places specific to their interests. An all-girls group from the Boys and Girls Club Brazos Valley interested in learning about careers in trades visited SSC at Kyle Field to learn more about what it takes to keep fans comfortable and able to enjoy Aggie Football Games. Nikki Simpson, Zone B Supervisor, coordinated the field trip in which the group participated in educational games pertaining to SSC’s apprentice program and focused on careers in HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing.  The group toured some of the places that keep Kyle Field running and ended with seeing Kyle Field from the ground and press box.  Jason Simpson, Lead Plumber in the Athletics Department, Zach Romero, Journeymen Electrician and Project Manager, and Bailey McLaughlin, apprentice HVAC technician with HSC all spoke to the girls about pathways to their career, gave short demonstrations of their craft, and explained why they have a passion for what they do.  After the presentation one student stated she was, “thinking about [a career] in electrical before but now really wants to do it!”
